Meet Sam Fleming, co-founder and acting Executive Director at 100 Gardens. With the help of the late Ron Morgan and Charles Oliphant, Sam installed aquaponic gardens in Haiti and the United States. Over the past 12 years, Sam has grown 100 Gardens from a 3 man team experimenting with aquaponics into a functioning organization with aquaponic programs at more than 20 different schools and several adult and juvenile correction centers.
Sam gained his experience in indoor farming and aquaponics while working at a plant nutrient and equipment store. He is known as a leader in the field of aquaponics and presented the 100 Gardens vision at TEDxCharlotte. Sam’s enthusiasm and desire to make the world a smarter, healthier and more compassionate place has become the foundation upon which 100 Gardens has built upon.
Sam juggles the responsibilities as Executive Director as well as the leading aquaponic technical expert on the team with gratitude and a smile on his face. Sam strives to lead by example, working directly with students, team members, and volunteers. Sam is not only an aquaponics rock star; he also plays guitar in a rock band! Sam lives in Charlotte with his girlfriend and dog.
